ANNUAL PARISH MEETING
Just a reminder: if you have received and are reading this copy of the GVN in time, the Annual Parish Meeting is to be held in Blakeney Village Hall on Thursday V May, commencing at 7pm. It is not a Parish Council meeting. However, the Parish Council does wish to hear your thoughts on a couple of items before they make a final decision at their May Parish Council meeting.
Therefore, the following items will be on the agenda. The findings from the 'Traffic Consultation Open Day', held on 1st September 2007, and in attendance at the meeting we shall have Karl Rands and Darren Mortimer from NCC Highways. We also want to know what you think about `Christmas lights' in the village, following on from the very successful illumination of the tree on The Pastures, and to obtain your thoughts on what you would like to see in the village during the festive period.
Please do come along and participate, this is your parish meeting after all, and it only takes place once a year. The local `Community Groups' give reports on what has happened in the past twelve months also, and there are usually some displays, particularly of the children's work from the Primary School and the Pre-School. We look forward to seeing you there.
CORONATION CAR PARK PERMITS –
You must reapply to the Parish Council for a permit if you are a current holder. Forms are available from the Parish Office, and can be collected, posted or emailed out. It is your responsibility to have an up-to-date permit.
NEW PEDESTRIAN ACCESS TO PLAYING FIELD –
NNDC has granted permission subject to various conditions, which the Parish Council are happy with. Therefore we shall now commence with drawings and quotations etc. The aim is to encourage more people to park on the Village Hall Car Park, and walk across straight into Little Lane, giving direct access to the High Street. We can but try.
TERMINATION OF NO. 45 BUS SERVICE –
from August 2008. This is the bus that runs from Fakenham to Blakeney etc, and on to Holt and then Norwich. Did you attend the meeting in Blakeney Village Hall on Tuesday 8e' April, where the termination of this bus service was discussed? If you did, then you will know all about; if you didn't then here is something you may like to think about.
The following is information provided by Norfolk County Council:
The proposal is to replace the Sanders 45 service North of Holt & Fakenham with two flexibuses. One flexibus would have a focus on Holt and one would have a focus on Fakenham. A flexibus is designed to roam in a specific area and pick up passengers who have pre-booked their journey. The major difference to a conventional bus service is that you need to ring and book at least one day ahead, although we are hoping that passengers may also be able to book on the day in an emergency.
Any parishes North of Holt and Fakenham currently served on the route and surrounding villages will be included. One bus will feed into Holt at specific times to meet the Service 45 into Norwich and will be there to meet the service in the afternoon and return you home. One bus will focus on feeding into Fakenham to meet services to Norwich and King's Lynn; however both buses are flexible in where they serve and can respond to specific demand such as market day in Fakenham. Please note the frequency of the service between Holt & Norwich is not affected.
1 The bus will provide a quick, comfortable ride in a modern, accessible bus.
2 The service can be shaped by you to meet your needs and be sustainable for years to come.
3 Concessionary bus passes will be accepted.
Comments are welcome from individuals, and they promise to work through and consider any queries raised. Andy Erskine has said that this is very much an opportunity for residents to shape the nature of their future bus service.
Should you have any comments or concerns, then please address them to:- Andy Erskine, Transport Co-ordinator North Central, Passenger Transport Group, Norfolk County Council, County Hall, Norwich, NR1 2SG or email ptu@norfolk.gov.uk.
NO COLD CALLING ZONES –
We would welcome your thoughts on this also, and will place it on the Annual Parish Meeting agenda, just asking for a show of hands, as to those who may be in favour of trying for such a scheme. What is it? Basically, a no cold calling zone is a designated area where the resident community declare they no longer wish to accept traders calling at their homes without an appointment. The zone is designated via the installation of signs at the entrance and exit to the zone and residents are supplied with educational and advice information and door stickers. However, the legal position is that there is no law preventing cold calling, but if a contract for goods or services arises from such an uninvited visit and is for more than £35, then the trader is generally obliged to give the householder a cancellation notice, allowing a 7 day cooling off period. If the trader fails to do so he commits a criminal offence for which Trading Standards may be able to take enforcement action (including prosecution).
A national Trading Standards Institute survey involved feedback from 9000 randomly selected households. The results showed that nationally 96% of people did not want doorstep cold callers and nobody actually welcomed them. There are currently 427 No Cold Calling Zones nationally and many more planned. Please let us know your thoughts.
