News from the School

It seems unbelievable that another School year is drawing to a close. Very soon our parents will be receiving their children's reports on the progress made this year, and 1 can just imagine the celebrations there are going to be in several households next week when they are read. The children and staff have all worked so hard this year with some truly great results!

Blakeney School is becoming known for the range of languages it teaches, with Italian in class 1, French in class 2 and Spanish in class 3. We have been so grateful to Ed and AJ from the National Trust for all their work in School, and for supporting James Cowan and "Norfolk etc" in arranging the sailing experience from Morston just last week. When the children (and staff) came back they were so excited (and wet) they are planning another trip, and hopefully regular lessons starting in September.

In assembly on Tuesday our theme was "moving on" and I looked at our year 6 children and realised that they are now "ready to fly". We hope that all their hard work these last 7 years will give them the best start they could have at High School as they carry on building their lives. I asked the children what they would do if I could give them "1 special wish" to change the World. One year 3 child said she would stop all oil spills, then a Reception child piped up with "I'd get a monster truck" Hmmm, more work to do on Citizenship then!

A SPECIAL THANKYOU FROM US ALL
To all those parents, members of the community and Governors who, week in and week out, give up their own time to come and help out in school. The children have benefited immeasurably from the practical and financial support and wealth of experience shared.

THE OLD WILD ROVERS EVENT- 3rd JULY
A big thank you to Tom Harrison and everyone who contributed in making the Old Wild Rovers evening and Auction of Promises such a success! People were indeed very generous in gifting some amazing promises, the "Friends" of the School (ably led by Diddly on this occasion) produced a delicious spread for supper, and the School Handbell Team led by Mrs Williams got everyone in the mood for a great evening with their rendition of "What shall we do with the drunken Sailor'?" and "Match of the Day" for any Dads missing football to be at the event.

The children had a go at being an auctioneer for the evening and kept us all amused. Altogether we raised over £1,700 which will be more than enough to refit our library area with new smart shelves to take our bigger books and a smart reading rug so the children can sit in comfort. The Old Wild Rovers have some unusual verses to "What shall we do with the drunken Sailor?" !!

RECYCLING EVENT
Thank you to everyone who brought up their recycling for our event at the end of June. We were very pleased with this first collection, and the chance to meet you all personally. Reverend Neil made a delicious barbecue' and the Friends made some gorgeous cream cakes. Bang goes my diet again! We plan to continue collecting so please continue to save us your juice boxes, foil containers, etc. More details in September, so watch this space!

FOOTBALL AND SPORTS DAY
The football team played their first match against West Raynham in early June. It was a great match with excellent team work from all the children, and everyone had a chance to play. Another big thank you to Robert, Mr Arlow and the community support team for all their hard work. It was a resounding Blakeney win!
Our traditional Sports day on Monday 5th June was very enjoyable. The children all tried their very best, we had some "tandem sack hopping", as Miss Frier gave children a "helping hop", and a superfast Mums race. Mrs Hall (Diddly) is now officially the Fastest Mum in School!
Happy Summer holidays everyone!
